What is a referral code? Enter one at sign-up for a fee rebate

Short answer

A referral code is a short code you enter when you sign up to an exchange, so it knows who invited you. Enter FAIRR at both Binance and OKX and you get 20% of your trading fees back on every trade, paid by the exchange straight into your account.

  • Open the sign-up page from a referral link and the code is usually filled in for you.
  • Enter it when you sign up. Binance lets you add one within 30 days if you haven't deposited or traded yet; OKX doesn't let you add one later.

In one line

A code you enter at sign-up that tells the exchange who invited you.

An example

  • Signing up to Binance? Enter FAIRR. In the app, the referral code step comes after your account is created and before the identity check (KYC).
  • Signing up to OKX? Enter FAIRR in the [Referral code (optional)] field on the sign-up page.

If you open the sign-up page from a referral link, the code is usually filled in already.

The rebate

The exchange pays part of your trading fees back to you, based on the code you signed up with. With FAIRR at both Binance and OKX, that’s 20%, paid straight into your exchange account. We never handle your money.

FAQ

I forgot to enter a referral code. Can I add it later?

At Binance, yes: within 30 days of signing up, as long as you haven't deposited or traded yet. At OKX, no: you can't add or change a code after sign-up. Don't close your account and sign up again, or open a second account, to get a code. That breaks the exchange's rules and can get you banned.

Can I switch to a different referral code later?

Usually not. Binance and OKX both say you can't change the referral relationship yourself once it's set.

Do I pay higher fees if I use a referral code?

No. The rebate comes out of the fees the exchange already charges, so your fee rate is the same as without a code.
