What are exchange VIP levels? Fee tiers based on volume or assets

Short answer

VIP levels are fee tiers an exchange sets by your recent trading volume or account balance. The higher the level, the lower the fees. Everyone starts as a regular user: standard Binance spot fees are 0.1% for maker and taker orders, and at OKX makers pay 0.08% and takers 0.1%.

  • The fee rates on our site are regular-user rates, with no VIP discount.
  • Don't trade more just to reach a VIP level. The extra fees often add up to more than you save.

In one line

VIP levels are an exchange’s membership tiers: users who trade more or hold more pay lower fees.

An example

For example, an exchange sorts users into levels by spot trading volume over the last 30 days:

  • You’ve just signed up, so you’re a regular user paying regular rates.
  • Once your volume passes a set threshold, you move up a level and your rate drops a little.

Fees

The rates we list are for regular users: standard Binance spot fees are 0.1% for maker and taker orders, and at OKX makers pay 0.08% and takers 0.1%. Don’t trade more just to level up: the extra fees often cost more than the VIP discount saves.

FAQ

How do I reach a VIP level?

Each exchange has its own rules, usually based on your trading volume over the last 30 days or your account balance. Check the exchange's fee page for details.

Can my VIP level go down?

Yes. Levels are usually recalculated regularly from recent activity, so if your volume or balance drops, your level can drop too.

Should a beginner care about VIP levels?

No. Regular rates are fine for most people. If you want to pay less, enter a referral code when you sign up: the exchange then pays part of your trading fees back to you.
