Signing up with a referral link: do you still need to enter the code?
Short answer
No. Open the sign-up page from a referral link and the code is filled in: Binance shows a green check and Linked after your account is created; OKX pre-fills the code box. If it's empty, type it in: Binance FAIRR, OKX FAIRR. Once linked it can't be changed, so check before you submit.

FAQ
Is signing up with a link different from typing the code?
It links the same referral code. The link fills it in so you don't have to type it; if you type it, check it character by character before you submit.
The pre-filled code isn't the one I want. What now?
OKX says a code may be carried over from your browser cache; open the referral link in a private window to sign up, and confirm the code before you submit. Binance: an invalid code can be edited or replaced, but once linked it can't be changed.
Does the link still work if I install the app first?
OKX: if you open the link and then install the app before signing up, the code may not link. The safest way is to sign up on the web with the link first, then install the app and log in. If you sign up in the app, type the code into the referral code box.
Can I enter a referral code to reactivate an older Binance account?
No. Binance says reactivation doesn't support binding with a referral code yet; you open the reactivation link, log in and tap the confirm button. See older accounts.
Someone sent me a link that supposedly gets me a bigger discount. Is that real?
First check the address is the official binance.com or okx.com. The fee discount is paid by the exchange at the rate built into the referral code and costs you nothing; being asked to transfer money or pay a fee first is a warning sign.
