What is USDT? The most-used stablecoin, worth about 1 USD

Short answer

USDT, also known as Tether, is a stablecoin pegged to the US dollar, so 1 USDT is worth about 1 USD. Most coins on exchanges are priced in USDT, as in BTC/USDT. It runs on several blockchains, so pick the right network before you send it.

  • USDT runs on several networks. When you send it, both sides have to use the same one.
  • Buying USDT through P2P? Place the order and confirm payment on the platform. Never agree to a deal outside it.

In one line

USDT is the most-used stablecoin: issued by Tether, worth about 1 USD, and used like cash on exchanges.

An example

You’re withdrawing 100 USDT from an exchange to your own wallet:

  • The withdrawal page asks you to pick a network, such as TRC20.
  • Your wallet’s receiving address has to be on the same network (Tron). When the two match, your USDT arrives.

FAQ

Which networks does USDT run on?

Common ones include Ethereum (ERC20) and Tron (TRC20). When you deposit or withdraw, both sides must use the same network. Pick the wrong one and you may not get your USDT back.

Can I change USDT back into my local currency?

Yes. Sell it for local currency on the exchange and withdraw to your bank, or sell it to another user through P2P. What's available depends on what the exchange offers where you live.

Someone wants to send me USDT. What do I give them?

Just your receiving address and the network to use. They never need your private key, seed phrase or verification codes. Anyone who asks for those is a scammer.
